Bald Mountain State Recreation Area
Join Recess Club for a refreshing morning hike through the shaded forests of Bald Mountain State Recreation Area.
This straightforward 3.8-mile loop winds through peaceful woods and alongside the river. With plenty of shade along the way, it’s a beautiful place to move your body, breathe deeply, connect with nature, and enjoy a little grown-up recess.
Trail Details
Distance: 3.8-mile loop
Elevation Gain: 229 feet
Estimated Time: 1–1.5 hours
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Terrain: Forest trails, river views, and potentially muddy sections
What to Know
A Michigan Recreation Passport or daily vehicle entry fee is required.
The trail can become muddy after rain, so sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Mosquitoes and other bugs may be active, so please bring bug spray.
(Please note: there is a shooting range nearby, and gunshots may occasionally be heard during the hike.)
What to Bring
Wear comfortable hiking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Bring water, bug spray, and your sense of adventure.
Come ready to slow down, move outside, meet new friends, and take recess.
